The California Rockcrawling & Off-Road Championship Series (CalROCS) closed out its 2003 season right where it started: at Cougar Buttes in Lucerne Valley, California. The four-event series attracted competitors from three separate classes and provided some of the most heated competitions within the rockcrawling circuit.
In the Modified Stock class, Jeff Mello scored the win by 18 points, making up a huge points deficit after the first day of competition. Mello was followed by Mike Berrard, who crept up from Fourth in the second day, and Cody Waggoner, who held on to Third Place after his stellar performance on Day One.
Pro Modified competitors Walker Evans and Joel McClure stayed within five points of each other during Day One, with McClure nearly bridging the gap to take the win. Evans remained victorious, however, capturing the win with a healthy six-point spread. Jason Scherer was a close Third, just five points behind McClure. The Unlimited class brought another win, with Marvin Pepper sweeping the competition by 13 points. Bill Rowlett followed after surrendering a nine-point lead on Day One, and Brent Bradshaw landed in Third Place.
CalROCS returns to Cougar Buttes in March to launch into its 2004 season. Get ready to witness the next wave of rockcrawling action as many of the same teams return to the gauntlet, along with a fresh crew of new faces and vehicles. The photos should fill in the rest.
