March 2007 Trail Rigs - Readers' 4x4s
During a recent excursion to Truckhaven, California, Steve and his wife Annie found a secret passage that was just big enough to squeeze their '06 Jeep Rubicon through. He was in the process of teaching his wife how to wheel, and he quickly learned that he may regret it since Annie is already stealing the keys to his rig. So far, the only modifications to his Jeep are a K&N FIPK intake system, front coil spacers, and a CB radio for emergencies, but we can assure you that there is much more to come.
At home in Rock Springs, Wyoming, or on vacation in Moab, Utah, this Jeep built by Jeremy Sundberg has a lot of fun out on the trail. With a 6-inch Skyjacker long-arm lift and 35-inch Goodyear MT/R tires, it makes light work of many trails. The rear axle has a Super 35 kit and 4.88 gears, and there are ARB lockers both front and rear. Engine modifications include a cold-air intake, a performance exhaust, an SYE kit, and a new high-angle driveline.
Kayla Hartley sent us this image she took of her husband Alan on the trails near their home in Freeway Ridge, California. Alan's '98 is equipped with a 4-inch Full-Traction lift, a 2-inch body lift, 35-inch Dunlop Mud Rover tires, and the rear axle has been swapped out for a much stronger Dana 44. Kayla tells us that Alan is quite the adventurer, having set out from California for trails all the way into Colorado.
Michael Curatolo from Pequannock, New Jersey, sent us this photo of his '04 Nissan Xterra, which has been modified to include a 3-inch Calmini lift kit, a 2-inch AC Customs body lift, 33-inch BFG M-T tires, and a ShrockWorks front bumper and matching ShrockWorks skidplates. Michael tells us that when his X isn't on the trail it's helping him make his daily rounds as a milkman for his father's dairy business. They've done it the old-fashioned way, dropping glass bottles right at the front door, for the past 17 years.
